NIGCOMSAT AND CGWIC SIGN PACT ON NIGCOMSAT-1R
On Tuesday 24th of March 2009, Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Alhassan Bako Zaku and NIGCOMSAT Limited Managing Director Engr. Ahmed Rufai, signed a pact of replacing NIGCOMSAT-1 with the Chinese government at a cost of $157 million.

The funds of the replacement would be at the instance of the Chinese authorities whose agency; China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) would undertake the implementation as a major contractor of the job.
CGWIC’s President, Mr. Yin Liming signed on behalf of the Chinese government.
The building of NIGCOMSAT-1R involves other Chinese agencies such as:
EXIM Bank
China Academy of Launch Technology (CALT) which serves as the major sub-contractor responsible for the building the rocket and launch vehicle.
China Launch and Tracking Control General (CLTC) which will be the sub-contractor for launch operations and ground station control and management.
China Aerospace and Science Corporation (CASC) and
China Academy of Space Technology (CAST); both responsible for the design and building of the satellite.
